Maintaining Focus for Victory

We must maintain our focus if we ever want to be victorious. This is the lesson Elisha giving to King Joash.

Elisha said, “‘Open the east window;’ … and ‘Shoot … The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them.’ Then he said, ‘Take the arrows;’ … ‘Strike the ground;’ so he struck three times, and stopped. And the man of God was angry with him, and said, ‘You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it! But now you will strike Syria only three times.’” (2 Kings 13:17-19)

Elisha was sick and close to death, so he gave Joash instructions in order to break the Aramean hold over Israel. The arrow Joash shot was God’s arrow of victory, and striking of the ground represented the number of victories God was going to give.

Unfortunately, Joash thought it was more symbolic and only struck the ground three times, which meant that while they would have some victory, they wouldn’t have complete victory.

If we’re ever going to secure the victory over the enemy we must maintain our focus upon Satan and his tactics, and not all side stuff he throws at us. We need to understand that Satan is behind these attacks that are directed towards the church and Christians.

Therefore, we must maintain our focus upon what and who is behind these attacks and quite railing at the attacks themselves. We must fight on that front if we ever want to see the victory.

Right now, Satan has us all over the place. Therefore, we need to define just who the enemy is. It’s not the moral decline and ungodliness we see, nor the politics of our leaders. It’s Satan.

Therefore, we need to maintain our focus and keep striking at the source, rather than flinging at all the other stuff.
