Those Who God Honors

God Honors Those Who Honor Him

We live in a world and society that continues to assault the basic tenants and moral values of the Christian faith.

This has also made its way into today’s church. There are Christians who want God to bless them, yet they’re living counter to God’s word. They’re living lives of disobedience.

But God honors those who honor Him.

This is on display in the life of Daniel and his three friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, which were all given new names when they were taken captive by the Babylonians (Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego).

When they arrived in Babylon, the food set before them had come from the table of the king, food dedicated to the Babylonian gods. So Daniel made up his mind to honor God.

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank.” (Daniel 1:8a NKJV)

Because of his stance to honor God by not eating food forbidden by the law of Moses, God honored Daniel giving him favor in the eyes of the overseer who honored Daniel’s request to test and see if he and his friends appearance and ability would be better or worse if they just ate veggies and drank water.

“Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants.” (Daniel 1:12-13 NKJV)

In the end they not only looked better, but God supernaturally gave them knowledge and skill beyond all the others, and to Daniel God gave the gift of understanding visions and dreams, Daniel 1:17.

“In all matters of wisdom and understanding … (the king) found them ten times better.” (Daniel 1:20 NKJV)

God honors those who honor Him.
