Book Snippet: The Road You Take Matters
In Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” Alice comes to a fork in the road and is unsure which way to go. Talking to herself and pondering her options, Alice hears a voice singing. It’s the Cheshire Cat staring down at her from his perch in a tree.
“Which way should I go?” Alice asks the cat.
“Well, that depends on where you want to get to,” the cat replies.
“It really doesn’t matter,” Alice says.
“Then it really doesn’t matter which way you go,” says the cat.
But it really does matter which way you go.
It’s good to know our destination, especially when eternity is at stake. It’s imperative we sit down before our journey, look at a map or GPS app, and decide which way is best.
In the biblical text, Jesus talks about two ways for someone to get to their eternal destination.
“Enter by the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
