Be Filled With the Holy Spirit

Be Filled With the Holy Spirit

In our society today Christmas has become a time when people fill themselves with inebriants, but as believers we need to fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit.

“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:18)

To prepare for Christmas we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit was there at that very first Christmas filling and overshadowing Mary.

The angel said to Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)

And for this same birth to take place inside us, that is, Jesus becoming alive in our hearts and lives, we need the same infilling presence of the Holy Spirit.

After John the Baptist told the people to have their lives filled with the fruit of repentance, they asked if he if was the Messiah. But he said no, but that when the Messiah came He would baptize them with the Holy Spirit.

“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11)

As believers we need the Holy Spirit to come upon us so that Jesus Christ can be formed within us. And before we lecture or preach of our society’s need to keep Christ in Christmas, it’s far more important for Christ to be formed within us

Christmas is about receiving a miracle from God, the miracle of having Christ formed within us. So let’s respond to this miracle by being filled with and seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

So let’s be filled with the Holy Spirit this Christmas season so we can truly make a difference in our community for Christ.
