Beyond Our Comprehension
“The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power, and no one was able to enter the temple till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.” (Revelation 15:8)
At this time, God is going to pour out His wrath upon humanity’s many ages of transgressions. Never again would God flood the earth, but that never meant He would put up sin forever.
Up to this point God has used everything in His arsenal to get us to repent, from His grace and mercy, compassion and love, to His divine discipline and judgment. He even used the greatest gift and made the greatest sacrifice in sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die upon the cross, taking our place and dying the death we deserve so our sins can be forgiven.
What caught my attention in this passage is that no one, not even the angelic beings or the elders who sit before God’s throne could enter His holy temple and abide His presence at this time.
Why?
Is there still that aspect of God that is unapproachable? Is God’s power and wrath so great that no created being, redeemed or not, can be in His presence?
Is the Lord so irreconcilable that He wants no rejoicing and praise in His presence when His judgment and wrath are being poured out on His creation?
Is God weeping and mourning and only wants to grieve amongst Himself, because no one else could possibly understand it to its fullest extent?
I honestly don’t know, and what I have found is that there will be times in my life and in human history that we’ll never know the answer.
So instead wondering about what I’ll never know, I should live with the revelation I have already received. This doesn’t mean I should never search out God in these areas, but when no answer comes, when heaven is silent, I should continue doing what I have been given.
