Body Image
Today it’s all about body image, that is, how we look. Is our muscles and skin tight and toned? Much of our worth is seen on how we measure up to what we see in today’s magazines and movies.
God is also interested in body image, but not our physical body, but rather the body of Christ, that is, the church. Are we functioning like a well oil and toned body, or are we disjointed and all over the place?
The Apostle Paul said, “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:12 NIV)
You are not just an isolated person in the kingdom of God. Rather you are a part of the body of Christ, and without the rest of the body, you cannot function as God intended. The Apostle Paul tells us the eye cannot say it has no need of the hand, nor can the head say it has no need of the feet, 1 Corinthians 12:21.
In other words, we all need each other. We cannot live this Christian life apart from the church and thus without one another.
The Bible says that Christ is the head of the church. What this means is that we cannot be one with Christ without being one with His body, the church.
Each of us is a part of the body of Christ, the church.
“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27 NIV)
And God has made all of us with a purpose and plan as a part of His body.
“God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.” (1 Corinthians 12:18 NIV)
Therefore, let’s make church a part of our lives, and let’s start living out the plan God has for us.
