Don’t Allow Fear to Stop God’s Promises
After the children of Israel defeated most of the standing armies and fortified cities in the Promised Land, and even though more remained, seven tribes of Israel had not yet claimed their inheritance.
And so Joshua asked this question, “How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?” (Joshua 18:3)
Joshua then commanded them to survey the land and write out a description of the inheritance they were to receive. (Joshua 18:4)
With this in mind, here’s the question for all of us.
“What’s preventing us from entering into the promises God has made for our lives?”
One thing that stops most of us is the fear of what lies ahead.
This was the tribe of Manasseh’s problem. They complained about not having enough land to live, and for Joshua to extend their boundaries because the Canaanites in the valley were too strong for them to overcome.
But Joshua said, “You can drive them out.”
Fear stops many of us from inheriting God’s promises. We feel like the promises are too big, too strong, too scary, and too much opposition exists in taking possession.
But the Lord is clear concerning this.
The Lord said to Joshua when the children of Israel were about to enter into the Promised Land, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
God has given us a rich inheritance and wants us to move out and start marking our territory.
Write down God’s promises.
The Bible says, “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.” (Habakkuk 2:2)
Don’t be afraid. Remember, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
