Finding Hope in the Midst of Sorrow
As I approached today and what I believe the Lord would have me share I came across a verse, one that I have read before but it really didn’t connect.
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13)
David is confident that with everything he has gone through he would still experience God’s goodness during his lifetime. David believed that God would come and rescue him out of all his trials and difficulties. David was assured that he would taste God’s goodness along with His guidance and protection.
This statement David makes is quite remarkable, because it come from a man who has experienced sorrow to its fullest measure.
“I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.” (Psalm 6:6)
But even through it all, even through all the heartache and grief, David knew the Lord God, and knew that his strength to survive and handle life’s sorrows came from Him. Even in the midst of some of life’s most horrendous moments, David knew God and therefore he had hope. A hope that would see him through these times of grief, and a hope that no matter how dark it may seem there was always light and joy in the end.
David knew God in a real and personal way, and because of that he had a hope and a joy. It is this same hope and joy that is available for us, as God gave Himself to us in His Son, Jesus Christ, who came and died so that whosoever believes in Him should never perish but have eternal life, John 3:16.
When we come to God through His Son, Jesus Christ, we can find that same mercy and grace to help us in our time of need, because He truly knows our sorrows.
