From Beginning To End – Trust God
In one of the most gut-churning Psalm written by David, Psalm 31, David is in agony. David is going through the ringer. He is mentally, emotionally and physically turmoil and is so fatigued that it is literally sapping his strength.
Listen to his words, “My eye wastes away with grief, yes, my soul and my body! For my life is spent with grief…my strength fails…my bones waste away…I am forgotten like a dead man…I am like a broken vessel.” (Psalm 31: 9-12)
Yet even in such despair and depression David knew the God in whom He served and it is to the Lord that He makes His request and in that has complete assurance.
“In You, O Lord, I put my trust,” and “But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say ‘You are my God.’” (Psalm 31:1, 14)
No matter what condition David finds himself in, from physical and mental fatigue due to his enemies or physical maladies, he always places his safekeeping into the strong and loving hands of God. God is David’s one sure defense of which David can depend, and find refuge and guidance, Psalm 31:3.
To solidify his total trust in God David says, “Into Your hand I commit my spirit.” (Psalm 31:5a) And it isn’t by chance that these are the same words spoken by Jesus upon the cross, Luke 23:46.
The lesson is simple, and while it may be hard to implement it is attainable and needed for our ultimate health. No matter what is going on in your life, trust in the Lord.
Look at how David ends this Psalm.
“Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” (Psalm 31:24)
So when you are fatigued mentally, emotionally, and physically to your maximum you can pray with this same confidence shown by David, that no matter what life throws your direction, “Into Your hands I commit my life.”
