God’s Calling is Irrevocable
How long will it take before we get it? Take a look at the story of God’s call for Moses.
“Then Moses answered and said, ‘But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ So the Lord said to him … Then Moses said to the Lord, ‘O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.’ So the Lord said to him … But he said, ‘O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.’ So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses.” (Exodus 4:1-2a; 10-11a, 13-14a)
At the first two requests Moses attempted to remove himself from God’s call. But God reassured Moses that He would be going with him through the working of miracles, and then God personally assured Moses it would work out.
Yet Moses still balked at the idea. And so God became angry at these constant excuses. But even then God’s grace and mercy prevailed as He sent Aaron to be Moses’ mouthpiece.
God has a calling on each of our lives, and while we constantly balk at the notion, God’s calling is irrevocable. And while we may feel inadequate, much like Moses, God gives us everything we need to as well to fulfill whatever He has called for us to do, because like his calling His gifts are irrevocable as well.
“For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:29)
Look at how God conveys this to Moses.
“Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say” (Exodus 4:11-12).
So we can move forward with confidence knowing God has given us everything we need.
