Hear What Jesus is Saying

Who are you listening too? God told Peter not to listen to other voices, even if they are godly, but rather listen only to Jesus. He said, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him.” (Luke 9:35)

Jesus had taken Peter, James and John up to what is known as the “Mount of Transfiguration.” There they saw Jesus transfigured, shining in all His glory. Alongside Him stood Moses and Elijah, who by their appearance represented the Law and Prophets.

Seeing this Peter said, “Let’s build three tabernacles, one for each,” but it said that Peter didn’t understand the significance of his words, Luke 9:33. Immediately a cloud overshadowed all of them and Moses and Elijah were gone, leaving only Jesus.

By building tabernacle for each of them Peter was saying, “Let’s honor and worship all three.” But God made sure this would never happen.

We are a lot like Peter in this instance. We tend to weight the Law and the Prophets as equal to Jesus, but this we must never do.

Of the law the Apostle Paul said, “The law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.” (Galatians 3:24-25)

And even as great as the prophets were, they were waiting for Jesus.

Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.” (Matthew 13:17)

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets, not someone that is comparable to them. He said, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” (Matthew 5:17)

When you read God’s word, both Old and New Testament, take time and ask Jesus to speak what you need to hear for your own life.
