Plant Your Life in Christ
In this devotional mini-series we’ve been looking at the steps in getting oneself above the bar in the track and field sport of pole-vaulting, and how these steps will help us live our lives above the bar and in accordance with God’s will.
To recap, the first thing we must do is find the right flexibility in the pole, and then take a running start towards the bar. But it really doesn’t do any good if we’ve got the perfect pole, and gained the necessary speed to make the jump if we don’t get our pole properly planted, because if we don’t we’ll end up in a messy pile at the bottom.
The Bible tells us that if we get our lives firmly planted in Jesus Christ, then we’ll live our lives above the bar, which entails not only an abundant life now, but also eternal life in heaven. But if we don’t then we’ll end up crashing and burning under the wrath of God.
Jesus said, “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)
That’s what happens to everyone who doesn’t get his or her life planted in Jesus Christ. Jesus said that all those who do not believe are condemned (Mark 16:16; John 3:18), and will end up in the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8). Talk about crashing and burning.
Jesus said that believing in God is good, but to get above the bar we need to believe in Him.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” (John 14:1)
Jesus also said that when we make that profession of faith, that is, when we plant our lives in Him, then we’ll live life above the bar, not only while on earth, but also for eternity.
So let’s get ourselves planted in Christ, and see our lives soar.
