Seize the Second
When you woke up this morning did you know that God gave you 86,400 seconds in the bank of time? The only bad part about this time bank is that there is no interest earned. Once that second is over there is no getting it back, nor can you put it away to earn more seconds in the future with it. There’s no drawing against yesterday’s seconds, nor can you draw against tomorrow’s seconds.
If you fail to use the seconds God has given you there is no second chance to get them back (No pun intended). All you can do is invest them wisely, which means we must live in the present and invest the time God has so graciously given to us for His Kingdom purposes.
In the Latin it is called, “Carpe dium,” or “Seize the Day.”
This is what the Psalmist had in mind when he told us that we only have so much time here on this earth before it’s all over and we enter into eternity, and so he prayed, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
We can always make more money, but we can never make more time. Therefore, we need to invest what God has given to us today. Knowing this, let’s take the Apostle Paul’s advice to heart.
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
Seize every second for the Lord in everything you do with family, friends, at work, or in rest. But most importantly invest it in getting closer to the Lord in times of studying God’s word, prayer, and worship. Invest the time God has so graciously given for His Kingdom as you live in this one.
