Spring of the Caller

Spring of the Caller

After Sampson defeated over 1,000 Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey, it says that he became very thirsty, so he cried out to the Lord,

“You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant; and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?” (Judges 15:18)

At Sampson’s request God caused water to come out of a hollow place, and Sampson was revived. Sampson called the name of that place the “Spring of the Caller.”

What a beautiful picture for us when we come to the realization that we cannot live this life for God on our own; that we need His water of life to revive and sustain us.

Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37b-38)

The Apostle John then explained that Jesus was speaking about the Holy Spirit who would come after Jesus’ glorification, that is, after His resurrection.

And so if you thirst for the righteousness of God, call out to Jesus and He’ll give to you rivers of living waters, that is, He’ll give you the Holy Spirit in abundance.

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened … If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:9-13)

Call out to Jesus today and He’ll provide you with living water, the Holy Spirit, to satisfy the thirst of your soul. And the Holy Spirit will be to you that “Spring of the Caller.”

By faith believe in Jesus’ promise.
