Taste and See
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” (Psalm 34:8)
To taste doesn’t mean to put something to our mouths to see if it is good and whether or not we’ll eat it or spit it out; rather it means to fully ingest it and partake of its goodness and nourishment.
We are not just to taste God to see if we like Him and will follow; rather to taste God is to fully immerse ourselves in Him. It is to fully bring the Lord into our lives where we are now living for Him and no longer the world. It is knowing the fullness of God for our lives.
It’s only then, after we taste the goodness of God for our lives, that our eyes be opened to see the fullness of that goodness, the fullness of His grace and mercy towards us.
To taste the fullness of God begins by tasting and ingesting His word.
“How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! … More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” (Psalm 119:103; 19:10)
“Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.” (Jeremiah 15:16)
Once we have tasted the goodness of God’s word then we’ll see what the Lord has in store. This was the Apostle John’s assessment.
“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:13)
Today take in the fullness of what God has for you within His word, and see the goodness of God for your life.
