We are saints who sin
“To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints.” (Romans 1:7)
We are sinners saved by grace meaning we are saints who sometimes sin. This goes back to our being a new creation in Christ. We are no longer who we were. Life is no longer lived for ourselves but for God through Jesus Christ who lives inside us.
No longer are we sinners who have been graciously forgiven. We are saints – holy, righteous, set apart by God – who still also happen to sin.
If we continue to think of ourselves only as sinners, guilt will eat us alive. We’ll live in constant fear of condemnation, not realizing that for believers in Christ on Judgment Day, it isn’t punishment we’ll receive, but rewards.
